Port Adelaide have upgraded rookie Kane Mitchell to their senior list, paving his way to play against Richmond in Friday night's AFL match.

Mitchell, 26, has been in oustanding form for Port's state league side, Power coach Ken Hinkley says.

"He thoroughly deserves the opportunity to come into our AFL side this week," Hinkley said in a statement on Thursday.

Mitchell has averaged 29 disposals in his nine matches for the Port Adelaide Magpies in the SANFL, also averaging a goal a game, seven tackles and five marks 

Power coach Ken Hinkley also confirmed that forward Jay Schulz and defender Jack Hombsch will return, with Paul Stewart and Sam Gray coming out of the side.
